I’m Ryan

I’m a visual journalist based in Denver, Colorado. After receiving a B.S. in journalism, I went on to finish a M.S. in ecology and wildlife conservation, both at the University of Florida, to start chasing stories of the natural world and how people are connected to it.

Currently, I’m working with Colorado Parks and Wildlife as a photographer and covering project visuals for their websites, magazine, education and outreach, and social media. Other freelance projects have ranged from photogrammetry in the Brazilian Amazon and helping document illegal deforestation for a TIME Magazine augmented reality mobile app to producing 360º video tours of university systems across multiple states to provide first-generation students an early awareness of college options.

Other fun facts include being half-Vietnamese, an FAA Part 107-certified drone pilot, a certified open water diver, and a member of both the Wild Lens Collective and Jackson Wild Collective. When not behind a camera, I can probably be found with a cigar and whisk(e)y or training at my local Muay Thai gym.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
